New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013 Review

Katie Holmes' debut of  her Holmes & Yang (Holmes' Stylist) line was a definite highlight of  fashion week. This exclusive event prompted IMG to inform  the media that  only those with  a direct invite from  Holmes and Yang team  will gain access to the venue. The line is said to convey simple sophistication.

Regarding the prevailing trends we saw bold brocade as presented by Lela Rose.  Cropped tops by Jason Wu signaled bare midriffs come spring/summer. Marchesa and Vera Wang intrigued us with Indian inspired pieces. Alice and Olivia was all sweet and feminine, kind of a cross between stepford wives and pretty preppy. Orange emerged as the color d' jour and of course there was quite a bit of sparkle and shine. Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs all presented stripes. However, Marc Jacobs' super bold(mod) stripes stole the show.

Of  course we salute designer Betsey Johnson on celebrating her 70th birthday. Her show was a retrospective of  her 40 years in the industry.  And although she was forced to close her boutiques and file for bankruptcy earlier this year, we hope she continues to be as fun and bubbly as ever.
